Potatoes

Varieties: Russet Burbank (95% processing), Russet Norkota (60% fresh market)

Planting Dates: April through May

Spacing: 34″ row spacing, 10 – 14″ plant spacing (12″ is most common), Usually planted 8″ deep.

Plant Density: 13,200 – 18,450 plants per acre

Bloom Date: Variable, May through June

Harvest Date: End of August through October

Irrigation Types: Rill, Sprinkler (95% center pivot): 32 inches of water from Irrigation.

Cultural Practices: Planted in Spring, drag off with a spike tooth harrow just after sprout initiation occurs. Cultivation/hilling up at emergence. Occasionally the vines are rolled or sprayed with Diquat as a harvest aid to promote skin set. Potatoes are then dug with 2, 3, or 4 row potato diggers. Most of the crop is processed.
